I consider wooden spoons to be one of my most essential homestead kitchen items. With proper care, they can last a really long time. The spoons I own I acquired at an estate sale. They are such an amazing quality, and I forsee them lasting a very long time.
This conditioning cream is simply amazing to make them shine. I can’t help but make a slurping noise as I apply the conditioner to the dry wood and watch it become amazingly hydrated. I’m sure that’s the noise they would make if they could talk.
This recipe is super easy and has just a few ingredients, so let’s get to it!
Equipment:
You don’t need a lot of equipment for this recipe.
-Wooden Spoons- If you’re making a wooden spoon conditioner, it might be handy to have some wooden spoons. I love THESE ones of you don’t already have some purchased.
-Measuring cups and spoons- I have been absolutely loving THESE ones I purchased.
-Glass bowl- Your glass bowl just needs to be small enough to fit inside your saucepan with room to be able to grip it around the edge.
-Deep saucepan-Any will do.
-Small Jar- THIS is what I purchased. I use these jars for many things in my home.
Funnel- If you don’t already have a funne, I love THIS one.

Ingredients:
-Coconut oil- I get mine at Costco, but THIS one is a great option if you don’t have a membership. This will nourish the wood beautifully.
-Natural Beeswax- Found HERE. This is a really useful item to have on hand. You can make candles and other products. If you are looking to get a larger quantity, you can purchase THIS one. This will help to protect the wood once it is applied.
Essential oil- My favorite to use for the recipe is orange. I generally use a higher quality of oils if we are using them medicinally, but for this recipe you don’t have to have top of the line. You can purchase it HERE.

Start by adding the coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils to the glass bowl.
Add a couple inches of water to your pot. Place the glass bowl in the water and slowly bring the water to a low simmer.

As the water warms, your wax and oil will begin to melt. Stir with a spoon to incorporate the ingredients together.
Once the mixture is completely melted, turn the heat off on the stove. You can wait a moment to let cool or you can CAREFULLY remove the glass bowl.
Place your funnel into your glass jar. Pour the wax mixture into the jar, avoiding spilling anywhere on your counter or skin.
At this point, you can use the conditioner once it is cool enough to work with or you can let it completely set up. Either is fine.

Just look at how AMAZING this stuff works! It is one of the most satisfying kitchen tasks you will ever get the pleasure of doing.

I usually put 2 coats on initially, especially if the wood was really dry to begin with.
You can condition as needed. I usually do a quick coat after each wash because we have such high mineral content in our water, they tend to dry out quickly.
